British citizens can now only stay in Italy for a maximum of 90 days without a visa, freedom of movement ended when the UK left the European Union.

  • UK passports should be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended date of departure from the Schengen Area not be more than 10 years old

Recommended insurance to travel to Italy

UK citizens can continue to use their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) until its expiry date.

Travellers can use the EHIC to receive state-provided healthcare if they get sick or have an accident whilst in Italy or another EU member state.

As a result of Brexit, the EHIC is being replaced by the Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC).

Neither the EHIC nor the GHIC is a substitute for travel insurance. UK nationals should take out insurance for Italy that includes coverage for medical costs.
